Deliveries to Ireland

At BasketsGalore we can deliver gift baskets to Ireland & Northern Ireland on a next day basis. We have trialled various Irish delivery couriers over the years and are very happy with our current supplier, Nightline Couriers.

Nightline offer an excellent next day delivery service & their customer service is really the best we have experienced. They have major depots in Belfast, Dublin, Waterford, Cork, Limerick, Galway & Sligo & have a vast network of drivers.

Some addresses in Ireland can be difficult to locate, as they don't have a postcode system (except for Dublin). With this in mind Nightline ask for a local contact number for the recipient to be supplied. This means that if they are having difficulty locating the address, they can telephone & ask for directions. Sometimes, if the address is particularly remote, the driver may telephone ahead to give the recipient advance notice. Although with so many deliveries to do, this is not standard practice. Drivers do not tell the recipient they have a gift basket for them, they simply say they have a delivery, so the surprise is not ruined. Our baskets are boxed in BasketsGalore branded cardboard boxes so the driver & recipient cannot see what is inside anyway.

I recently spoke to the manager of Nightline's Galway depot, after a customer was upset her friend had missed the delivery of her birthday gift. It turned out the driver had been outside the delivery address, but no-one was at home. It is then common practice to post a calling card through the door to advise a delivery attempt was made & when the recipient receives this they can ring the number to arrange re-delivery at a convenient time. Parcels must be signed for you see, so the driver cannot simply leave them on the doorstep.

On this occasion the kind driver telephoned the number supplied to see if the recipient was nearby, before he left. He only got through to an answering machine, so left a message & his mobile number. for her It turned out that the person sending the gift had put their own mobile number on the parcel, so she received the voicemail message from the driver. Unfortunately by the time she phoned back the driver had left the area to carry on with his daily deliveries. Our customer was very upset that delivery could now not take place until the following day. We understand the disappointment if the recipient misses the delivery, but unfortunately drivers have so many deliveries to do they cannot wait for someone to return home. As luck would have it, one of the drivers in the Galway depot lived in this particular village & offered to attempt delivery again that evening. So the recipient got her birthday basket on the day after all.

Sometimes when a customer notifies us of a delivery problem & we contact Nightline, they have already come up with a solution! I remember a company purchased a gift from us for another company in Ireland & phoned us a day or 2 later to say it hadn't been received. We contacted Nightline who informed us they had attempted delivery, but discovered the recipient company had now moved premises. They had already found out the new address & the parcel had been scheduled for delivery to the new address the following day!

These little extra's make all the difference when dealing with a courier company, as our parcels are generally time sensitive & of a personal nature so are very important to our customers & to ourselves.

Flowers For Mum Gifts

Our most popular Gift Basket For Mum of all time has to be 'Mother's Day Flowers & Treats'. This is actually kind of amusing as it is somewhat against our original aim to be the "alternative to flowers". Instead of ignoring flowers completely, as let's face it they are still an extremely popular choice of gift, we decided to embrace them in a different manner. Rather than trying to compete with local florists who will always be able to present a more attractive bouquet than one having to travel through a delivery network, we came up with the idea of a flowering PLANT. This attractive floral plant could then accompany a smaller basket of treats to provide the end receiver the best of both worlds. Historically the 'Mother's Day Flowers & Treats' gift was pitched at a discounted, popular price point and it would be updated slightly each year for repeat Customers. The focus of the basket was on food and this was accompanied by a pretty fl...

How To - Create An Easter Gift Basket...Top 5 Tips

Easter time is an example of an occasion perfect for gift baskets. You might like to create an Easter Gift for your kids & family or perhaps to sell, but how would you go about this? Read on for our top 5 tips for creating Easter Gifts Baskets. There are a number of factors to keep in mind when deciding to create an Easter Gift. 1) The Recipient(s)  - Always keep in mind who the gift basket is for & this will help with all your other choices. Is it for an individual person or a group of people?  If it is for a group of people then you will probably need to include more items. More items can obviously lead to more cost, but not necessarily  if you pick easy to share items such cake, cupcakes, chocolates & sweeties. Also what age is/are the recipient(s)? If it is for a young child then there will be certain sweets not suitable for them. Older recipients are unlikely to appreciate lots of candy or toys, unless of course they are young at heart! 2...
